Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Assignment on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Rotating shifts on a 3x12-hour schedule (Day: 7:00am–7:30pm, Night: 7:00pm–7:30am). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS Stroke Certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
Orientation and Competency Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) completed at orientation with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
- Must complete SafeMedicate prep materials prior to orientation exam.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually. Facial hair exemptions require approval.
- Immunizations and documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray with clearance if past positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
Background and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required monthly.
- Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care practice in a similar area.
- Two professional references from within one year of start date (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
Additional Notes
- Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Candidates returning to the facility after a gap of less than 6 months may not need to repeat certain orientation or competency requirements.
- Legal name must be consistent across all documentation.
- Modules and onboarding must be completed prior to clearance to start.
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced Stepdown RNs with strong clinical skills and flexibility to work rotating 12-hour shifts in a high-acuity environment.
