Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Unit: 5T – 22 bed adult Medical Surgical Oncology unit
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Must live more than 50 miles from the facility.
  • Nurses will float between Medical Surgical and Stepdown/PCU units as needed.
  • Stepdown/PCU experience required in addition to Medical Surgical experience.
  • First-time travelers accepted.
  • Must already hold a South Carolina nursing license.
  • Shift coverage includes weekdays, every other weekend, float, and holidays as needed.
  • Skills required: IV start.
  • Electronic Medical Record system used: Meditech.
  • Scrubs are not provided; dress code includes royal blue/white colors.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BCLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only; required for certain units but verify if needed for this role.
  • Chemo certification may be required for Oncology/Infusion nurses; not required for this unit.
  • Competency exams and facility-specific orientation modules (~81 modules) must be completed prior to first shift.
  • Facility-specific safety and confidentiality acknowledgements required.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
  • Criminal background check required within 30 days of start (for new candidates).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands required.
  • Immunizations and titers required or documented declinations accepted for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine series)
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination
    • COVID vaccination or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required; TB questionnaire required for positive responders.
  • Drug testing (10 panel) required within 30 days of start; instant tests not accepted.

Additional Notes

  • Badge photo required with specific guidelines (no hats, sunglasses, filters, or shadows).
  • Facility requires completion of extensive orientation and training modules before starting.
  • Must sign facility-specific job description and confidentiality agreements.
  • Performance evaluations and employment history documentation required if applicable.
  • Candidates who have worked at the facility for over 2 years must have internal evaluations on file.

This position offers a structured travel nursing opportunity on a Medical Surgical Oncology unit with a focus on patient care flexibility between Med Surg and Stepdown/PCU settings.
