Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Unit: 5T – 22 bed adult Medical Surgical Oncology unit
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Must have 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience.
- Experience in stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) required; nurses will float to PCU as needed.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Must already hold a South Carolina nursing license.
- Cannot live within 50 miles of the facility.
- Shift schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, float shifts, and holidays as needed.
- Skills required: IV start.
- Electronic Medical Record system used: Meditech.
- Scrubs are not provided; dress code colors are royal blue/white.
Required Certifications
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support).
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for Medical Surgical RNs).
- Chemotherapy certification may be required for Oncology/Infusion nurses; confirm if applicable.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required only for Cath Lab, ER/ED, ICU, OR, PACU (not required for this unit).
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, CPI) not required for this role.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Clean background and no license restrictions.
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during shifts.
- Proof of 2 clinical references.
- Must pass required competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency.
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Up-to-date immunizations or documented declinations for Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu, and COVID vaccines.
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 30 days of start for new candidates.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (~81 modules) prior to first shift.
- Badge photo meeting facility standards required.
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide sex offender check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG within 30 days of start.
- Nursys verification required.
- Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be signed.
- Performance evaluations and skills checklists may be required if previously worked through any agency or with the facility.
Preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not required.
Notes
- This position floats between Medical Surgical and PCU units.
- Facility is strict on compliance with all documentation and credentialing requirements.
- Candidates must be prepared for a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and float shifts.
