Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Details
- Adult Medical-Surgical Oncology unit (22 beds)
- Unit: 5T
- Nurses will float to the Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) as needed
- Travelers must have Stepdown/PCU experience in addition to Med Surg experience
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only
- Chemotherapy certification may be required for Oncology/Infusion nurses; not required for this Med Surg/Oncology unit
- NIH Stroke Certification required for Med Surg RNs
Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Meditech
Dress Code
- Scrubs not provided; royal blue/white colors required
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- Criminal background check required within 6 months (or 30 days for new candidates) before start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Facility-specific documents and acknowledgements must be signed prior to start
- Relias program modules (~81 modules) must be completed before first shift and orientation
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (annual questionnaire thereafter)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or facility-specific declination
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: titer or vaccination series with boosters or declination form
- Hepatitis B: positive titer or vaccine series required; declination form if negative
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required year-round
- COVID vaccination or declination required
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 6 months (or 30 days for new candidates); instant tests not accepted
Documentation and History
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance evaluation required if previously completed assignments through any agency
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units
- Internal evaluation required if worked with the facility for over 2 years
Additional Notes
- Shift includes weekdays, every other weekend, float, and holidays as needed
- Facility is strict on documentation and compliance requirements
- Orientation may include up to 8 hours of module completion time
