Description
Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, day and night rotations
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend rotation and some holidays
- 36 hours per week
Job Description
- Provide care for ICU and Intermediate Care (IMC) patient populations
- ICU experience required; neurosurgery experience preferred
- Must have experience working with ICU and IMC patients
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Must pass a Telemetry test prior to starting
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Minimum of 1 year of Neuro ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
- Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form (state-mandated)
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
- Physical exam (collected to meet agency standard, not facility-required)
- Immunizations and health documents:
- TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire (updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer, with exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if declining
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing for Telemetry exam
- References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)
- Employment application and annual skills checklist
Testing and Competency Exams
- Telemetry pass/fail exam required before start and annually thereafter
- Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation after 2nd failure
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Rhythm interpretation remediation course required if second Telemetry exam attempt is failed
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
- Must be willing to work with ICU and IMC patient populations
- Facility requires strict adherence to certification renewal timelines and documentation uploads
- All certifications must be American Heart Association (AHA) issued where applicable
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with neurosurgery exposure who are comfortable working rotating 12-hour shifts and meeting rigorous compliance and testing standards.
