Description
Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) - Travel/Contract
Location: Pittsfield, Massachusetts
Setting: Outpatient Surgery Center with float to main Operating Room
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3 shifts of 12 hours per week, total 36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide RN First Assistant services in an outpatient surgery center.
- On-call as needed.
- Float to main Operating Room as required.
- Immediate start preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Massachusetts.
- Minimum 3 years of First Assist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in outpatient surgery.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Emergency contact form prior to start.
- Standard background checks including 7-year history and annual updates.
- Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations and titers:
- Hepatitis B (positive titer required or declination form if combined with low titer).
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – positive titers required; boosters if negative or equivocal.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (no instant drug screens).
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
- Annual COVID vaccination or approved exemption; proof of full COVID vaccination required prior to start.
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or meet Angoff score).
- Color blindness test within 1 year prior to start.
- Competency exams as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable).
References
- 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
Additional Notes
- Must be able to work day shifts with on-call availability.
- Floating to main OR requires flexibility and adaptability.
- Compliance with all facility-specific health and safety protocols is mandatory.
