Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry
Location: Marion, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
Float Requirement: May float to the medical unit
Patient Population: Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients (e.g., CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, cerebral angiogram), plus general medical and medical overflow patients
Unit Info: 22-bed Neuro unit, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4 (charge nurse has patient assignment)
Scrub Color: Navy Blue
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience with 2 years of experience
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- Neuro experience
- Neurology experience
- Strong Neuro assessments
- Heparin gtt initiation/titration
- Indwelling drain management
- Experience with Epic
Skills and Responsibilities
- Strong neuro assessments including NIHSS and dysphagia screening
- Basic telemetry interpretation
- Strict intake and output monitoring
- Foley catheter and straight catheter care
- Initiate and titrate heparin drips
- Blood and blood product administration, venipuncture, and blood cultures
- Management of NG tubes and indwelling drains
- Administration of stable drips (e.g., Protonix, Lasix)
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
- Ability to manage change well and work resiliently in a fast-paced environment
Additional Information
- No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
- COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
- Guaranteed hours may not apply during orientation week or holidays when the unit is closed
