Description
Certified Surgical Technologist
Location: Bozeman, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Variable shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
On-Call: Three mandatory on-call shifts per contract
Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist functions as the scrub person in the operating room, working under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse. The role ensures a safe operating room environment, proper equipment function, and supports operative procedures to maximize patient safety. Expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, and surgical procedures is required to facilitate safe care during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential with at least 1 year of experience within the last year
- High School Diploma or equivalent, or completion of an accredited military surgical technologist program
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of surgical technologist experience in an acute care operating room
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare and complete case carts according to preference cards
- Interpret preference cards to procure instruments and supplies
- Coordinate instrumentation with operating room and sterile processing staff for scheduled and unscheduled cases
- Review daily surgical schedule with charge nurse and sterile processing coordinator to identify potential delays
- Manage communications and delegate duties related to core phone and coordination of breaks/lunches
- Serve as a resource for sterile processing and surgical services departments regarding supply and instrumentation needs
- Communicate with materials management about supply utilization and deployment
Schedule Requirements
- Regular and sustained attendance required
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts
- On-call work required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs
Physical Requirements
- Repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds
- Sit occasionally for extended periods
- Stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, kneel, reach above shoulder level, push, and pull repeatedly
- Rarely climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles
- Continuous fine finger movements and close visual acuity required
- Continuous cognitive skills including learning new tasks, maintaining focus, and making timely decisions
- Continuous exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, medications, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations
Additional Information
- Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered
- The facility reserves the right to cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
