Description

Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Flagstaff, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Role: Emergency Room Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Typical Patient Ratio: 4:1 (based on acuity)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, as needed
  • Floating: Not required
  • Blocked Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Time Off Requests: Require unit manager approval
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma, Teaching Hospital
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrub Color: Any color allowed
  • Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Arizona
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check within 30 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Required (diploma or official transcripts accepted if verification pending)
  • Employment History: 3 years of work history with documented gaps over 30 days
  • References: Two professional references required (one from most recent employer within 1 year)
  • Employment Application: Required, covering last 3 years with documented gaps
  • Security & Confidentiality: Must complete and sign security question form and confidentiality agreement prior to start
  • Photo for Badge: Required (clear headshot with preferably clear background)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, must confirm ability to perform essential job functions
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test required within 1 year and updated annually (PAPR not an option)
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) preferred within last 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test (PPD, Q Gold, or Tspot) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if history of positive TB
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines required
    • Varicella – positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B – positive titer, 3-dose vaccine series, or declination required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal Vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine or signed declination form required for 2025-2026 season; decliners must wear masks when not eating or drinking
    • COVID vaccine or declination form required

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher) within 1 year of start
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) updated annually (not required for all non-clinical roles)
  • Fall Prevention Competency Exam required for all RNs starting 9/8/2025 or later

  • No on-call duties required
  • No floating to other units required
  • Facility allows scrub color choice

  • Must adhere to facility’s quality and patient safety standards, including barcode medication administration (BCMA)

This position is suitable for RNs with emergency room experience seeking a travel contract in a Level I trauma teaching hospital environment with night shifts. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
