Description
Registered Nurse - ICU/PCU Float (Night Shift)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float between ICU and PCU units; must be comfortable working all ICU and PCU units.
- Night shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM).
- Staffing needs re-evaluated every 4 hours; may float 2-3 times per shift.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block.
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Local candidates accepted within a specified radius.
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks.
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia.
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association.
- BLS issued by American Heart Association.
- NIHSS.
Experience
- ICU - Intensive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
- Experience with Epic
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Unit Details
- PCU nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 5:1.
- ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 2:1.
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Driver’s License/State ID with an address within 100 miles of the facility required within 48 hours of signing.
- E-Verify or attestation required.
- 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, completed within 1 year of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
- Education verification of highest earned degree required.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) or chest X-ray within 1 year; updated annually.
- Fit test for respirator masks within 1 year, updated annually (onsite fit testing possible if needed).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Flu vaccination documentation or signed declination form required during flu season.
- Two clinical references required.
- Completed employment application/resume.
- Annual skills checklist update required.
- Professional photo for badge required (no selfies or filters, plain background).
Additional Notes
- Candidate must review and acknowledge the contract staff orientation manual prior to start.
- All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application.
- Facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed within 48 hours of signing.
- VA State Police Search completed onsite on first day of orientation for certain candidates; no pre-action required.
