Description

Job Opportunity: Cardiac Tele Registered Nurse

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Unit Description:
    • 36 private rooms
    • Patient population ranges from young adults to geriatric
    • Focus on medical cardiac care and recovery from cardiac interventions such as cardiac surgery, coronary artery stent placement, and pacemaker implantation
    • Also admits hemodynamically stable non-procedural cardiac patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Telemetry experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
    • Includes SS trace, county searches, nationwide search, sex offender check, education verification
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire
  • Education Verification: Must verify highest level of education; transcript or diploma may be accepted temporarily if verification is pending
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Physical Exam: Within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start, must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations & Health Screenings:
    • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, additional documentation required
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; booster may be required
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history of chickenpox required; boosters if titers negative or equivocal
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); declinations not accepted
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and other profession-specific competency exams required with minimum passing scores
  • Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • Photo: Clear headshot required for badge issuance

Additional Notes

  • Candidates residing in certain Texas counties (including Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris) are not eligible for this travel contract.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • E-Verify and attestation required depending on candidate type
  • Employment application and work history verification (7 years) required
  • References are an internal requirement only and not mandatory for clearance

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac telemetry unit caring for a diverse adult patient population requiring advanced cardiac care. Night shift experience and relevant certifications are essential for success in this role.
