Description
Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Carmel, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Yes
- Floating: Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Block Schedule: Potentially negotiable (to be discussed)
- First Time Travelers: Limited acceptance; no more than 1 of 3 contracts can be a first travel contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year work/lived history verification (SSN trace, county, state, national sex offender, FACIS Level III)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start)
- Education verification (highest applicable education)
- State license verification (within 30 days before start)
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Immunizations and titers:
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended (preferred but not required)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam
- Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, compliance, confidentiality, and policy forms prior to start (including self-study orientation and test)
Additional Notes
- On-call is not required
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Charge pay is offered for this role
- Candidates must be able to work weekends
- The facility requires timely completion of all required documentation and compliance forms as a priority
This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs who have at least 2 years of specialty experience and are comfortable with a 1:4 patient ratio in a fast-paced environment requiring weekend availability and floating within scope. Prior travel experience is limited for first-time travelers.
