Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Fishers, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical Surgical
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Unit: Lone medical-surgical unit in a community hospital
- Patient population: Patients admitted from OR, ED, or downgraded from ICU/PCU
- Average admits: 8-12 per 24-hour period
- Patient ratio goal: 5:1 (flexing to 6:1 may occur)
- Float: Possible to ICU/PCU or ED holds for medsurg patients every other week (not common)
- Holiday coverage: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing
- Recent experience in Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background check within 90 days including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Official transcript or diploma (may be pending at start if needed)
- Education verification by third party (may be pending at start if needed)
- State license verification online within 30 days of start
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations, history not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Preferred but not required
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest x-ray and proof of positive history required
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31); declinations not accepted
- HIPAA and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or above

- Must be willing to work required holidays

- Float assignments are rare but possible every other week
- This is a community hospital setting with a busy medical-surgical unit
