Description
Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, total 36 hours/week)
Job Description
- Provide clinical care in Labor and Delivery with expected cross-training to Mother/Baby unit.
- May be floated to NICU (feeders/grower patients).
- Work includes care for low-risk patients including certified nurse midwife population and high-risk maternal fetal medicine cases.
- Facility features: approximately 2000 annual deliveries, 8 private labor rooms, 4 private triage beds, and 2 OB operating rooms.
- Time off: Can approve up to 40 hours; work schedule includes every other holiday and every other weekend.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Fetal Monitoring (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- AWHONN Intermediate level certification
Required Licenses and Qualifications
- Valid Virginia RN license (VA license pending submissions accepted)

Background Checks and Verifications

Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB test
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations/exemptions for Rubeola
- Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required; if low/negative, additional antigen titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually during flu season (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
Additional Requirements and Information
- Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby unit
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually
- Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed
- Candidate must complete facility-specific screening, release authorization, and traveler compliance forms prior to start
Work Environment and Expectations
- Night shift with 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week
- Cross-training and floating to related units expected
- Work schedule includes alternating holidays and weekends
