Description

Registered Nurse – ER (Charlottesville, Virginia)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00–7:00)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours (can be 36 or 48 hours)
  • Schedule: Weekends required; scheduled days vary based on staffing needs
  • Holidays: Every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – must have before start; can submit with pending but must be completed prior to starting
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – can submit with pending but must have before start

License Requirements

  • Valid Virginia RN license required; can submit application with license pending

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Education verification required; BSN preferred, ASN required if no BSN
  • Official transcript acceptable; photocopy of diploma not accepted
  • Fingerprinting required for certain units (facility will notify if needed)
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required only for behavioral health units and specific unit assignments (processed within 45 days prior to start)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD within 1 year and 90 days of start; Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
  • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations/exemptions for measles
  • Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required; if low/negative, Hep B Antigen titer required within 6 months of start
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination required if titer negative
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually during flu season (no exemptions)

Drug Testing

  • 10-panel drug screen required within 2 months of start and updated annually
  • Must include Marijuana (Cannabinoids) and Fentanyl panels
  • Instant drug tests not accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable, updated annually
  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles (completed onsite if required)
  • Various facility-specific compliance and release forms must be completed prior to start

Notes

  • Time off can be approved up to 40 hours maximum
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
