Description

Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work primarily on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department and other stepdown/PCU units.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes passing an ECG rhythm recognition test and a medication administration exam (SafeMedicate).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) must be current and updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results received prior to contract extension.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date confirming ability to perform essential job functions; latex allergy notification required if applicable.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year, not required annually if continuously employed without break.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for medication competency exam.
  • Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation with minimum passing scores (90% medication, 80% ECG). Retakes allowed with remediation.
  • Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation testing.

References & Employment History

  • Two professional references required from supervisors or managers within the last year.
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting at the facility in addition to agency fingerprinting.
  • Candidates with name changes must ensure legal name is updated and consistent across all documentation.
  • Travel experience in Stepdown or PCU is acceptable to meet experience requirements.
  • This is a travel/contract position with a fixed 13-week duration.
