Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU
Location
- Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
Unit Assignment
- Primarily Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- NICU or PICU experience required
- Floating to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care units may be required
- Must have recent Children's Hospital experience within the last 3 years; experience at a Level 1 adult facility is also considered
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
Experience
- Minimum 2 years in NICU specialty
- Children's Hospital experience within last 3 years preferred
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- NRP (AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if assigned to L&D
- PALS preferred
- Unit competency exam required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (not for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit test within 12 months of start date (approved respirators only)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start date
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start date
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Official transcript or diploma required (may be pending at start)
- Education verification by third party (may be pending at start)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps over 30 days
- Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or higher
Orientation & Facility Requirements
- Completion of mandatory facility-specific modules and orientation packets prior to start
- Completion of mandatory RRT modules by deadline (for RRT candidates)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement updated annually
- Compliance and confidentiality agreements required
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually
Additional Notes
- First-time travelers accepted
- Indiana RNs are restricted from working at this facility effective 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
- Must confirm comfort with every other weekend shift requirement before submission
