Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Shift: Combination of three 12-hour shifts between 7:00 AM–7:00 PM and 10:00 AM–10:00 PM, with every 3rd weekend required
Hours per Week: 32

Job Summary

Coordinate nursing care for patients in the Emergency Department, ranging from pediatric to geriatric. Provide direct patient care and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient, safe, and effective treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care across all age groups.
• Perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5-level process.
• Document nursing care and patient responses accurately and legally.
• Collaborate with providers, peers, ancillary departments, and external agencies to optimize patient care and flow.
• Prioritize and coordinate care for multiple patients in a timely manner.
• Advocate for patients through clear and concise communication.
• Participate in professional development, including required education and audits.
• Assess patient and family knowledge and discharge needs.
• Monitor life support and technical equipment; administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and perform emergency resuscitation.
• Respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations, delegating tasks appropriately.
• Comply with legal and transfer protocols to protect patient rights.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and complete checklists before shift end.
• Provide educational experiences for pre-hospital emergency providers and students.
• Demonstrate proficiency in computerized patient documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
