Description

Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool - Registered Nurse

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Float to various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, pediatric med-surg, pediatric PACU, pediatric ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby units
  • Must have PICU and NICU experience and be comfortable with pediatrics
  • Previous NICU/PICU float pool experience considered
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Time off: 40 hours can be approved; no return-to-office (RTO) approved during first 2 weeks of assignment
  • Must adhere to float policy
  • Epic electronic health record experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, including within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding™ certification (can submit with pending status)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and others as required
  • Primary source verification of nursing license within 30 days of start
  • Official transcript required (photocopy of diploma not acceptable)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
    • 2-step TB test or equivalent (Qgold acceptable, Tspot not accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations/exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or specific antigen titer protocol
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination required if titer negative)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
  • Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
  • Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation (not required for this pediatric float pool role)
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Facility-specific compliance forms and screenings must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Fingerprinting required for certain behavioral health assignments; not specified for this role
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Performance evaluations and skills checklists may be required if previously employed with the agency
  • Radiation badges not provided for new candidates; not applicable for this role
  • CPI certification required only for behavioral health nurses (not applicable here)

This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care nurses with strong PICU and NICU backgrounds who are flexible and comfortable floating across multiple pediatric specialty units.
