Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Unit with 17 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
- Patient population includes transfers from Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, and nursing facilities
- Wide range of medical diagnoses: diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, ESRD with pulmonary hypertension, wounds, drains, tubes, etc.
- Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Scheduling: Every other weekend; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Time off: Up to 40 hours can be approved (except around Labor Day)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Valid Driver's License

Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during work hours
- 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
- Education verification: BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN
- Official transcript acceptable; photocopy of diploma not accepted
- Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health and certain units; otherwise may be required on a case-by-case basis
- Abuse registry search required only for Behavioral Health and specific units
- Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Skills checklist and competency exams must be updated annually
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet job demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations allowed for measles
- Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required; if low/negative, additional antigen titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually during flu season (no exemptions)
- 10-panel drug screen including marijuana and fentanyl within 2 months of start, updated annually
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and initial professional appearance guidelines
- Complete release authorization and employee health screening forms prior to start
- Fit testing for patient-facing roles completed onsite if required
- Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
- Compliance with traveler policies and documentation submission required
Notes
- This position offers 36 or 48 hours per week with flexibility on time off except around Labor Day
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Fingerprinting and abuse registry checks have specific timelines and may delay start if not completed
