Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Stepdown role with frequent floating to ICU and MedSurg units. Must be comfortable working across these areas.
- Patient ratios: Stepdown 1:4-5, ICU 1:2, MedSurg 1:5-6
- 21 beds in unit
- Non-titrating drips including Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, Cardene
- Care for patients with vascular procedures (fem-pop, CEA), NSTEMI, post cardiac cath with intervention
- Manage CIWA patients receiving IVP Ativan (no Presidex)
- Experience with Peritoneal Dialysis, stable BiPAP, heated high flow <80%, home ventilators (Trilogy)
- Wound care, nebulizers, hemodialysis in dialysis department
- EMR system: Meditech
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Orientation & Uniform
- Orientation every Wednesday
- Every other week (EOW) requirement applies
- Scrubs colors: Royal Blue and White
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, county searches, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within required timeframes
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations or titers required: Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire for positive responders
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required year-round
- COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required
- Badge photo required (no hats, sunglasses, shadows, or altered images)
Documentation & Competencies
- Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Performance evaluation if previously completed assignments through any agency
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit
- Internal evaluation if worked with the facility over 2 years
- Completion of ~81 Relias program modules prior to first shift and orientation (may log up to 8 hours for orientation)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Core HIPAA and safety manual acknowledgements required
Additional Notes
- Patient care includes managing non-titrating drips and stable ventilator support
- Floating across multiple units is mandatory and frequent
- Must confirm comfort with floating and working in ICU, Stepdown, and MedSurg settings
This position is ideal for experienced ICU/Stepdown RNs comfortable with floating and managing complex patients in a fast-paced environment.
