Description
Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour evening shifts (e.g., 11a-11p weekdays, 3p-3a weekends)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Orientation: Two 12-hour shifts on unit
- Scheduling Notes:
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Holiday coverage: 2 out of 4 major holidays or every other holiday
- No call required
- Time off requires approval
Facility & Unit Overview
- Level IV Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Teaching hospital with geriatric accreditation
- Emergency Department has 35 beds plus 6 fast track rooms
- Average patient volume: 168 patients per day
- Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics
- High acuity including trauma (GSW, stabbings, falls, MVC), invasive neuro cases, STEMI requiring cath lab stabilization and transfer
- Significant mental health patient population
Patient Ratios
- Day & Night shifts: 1 nurse to 4 patients (acuity based)
- Fast Track: 1 nurse to 6 patients
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation experience
- TPA administration experience
- Blood administration experience
- Procedural sedation experience
- Code blue experience
Support & Team
- 24/7 unit secretary and ED tech (able to draw blood, perform glucose checks)
- Charge nurse (may occasionally have lower acuity assignment)
- Phlebotomy support (may assist with blood cultures or difficult sticks, respond in trauma)
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7
- ED physicians and mid-level providers available 24/7
- ED educator and therapy services (OT, PT, ST)
- Security with locked unit; home base in ED lobby
- Central and bedside telemetry monitoring
Technology & Equipment
- Electronic charting system: EPIC
- Infusion pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis
