Medical ICU RN Travel Assignment

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Medical ICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a mixed acuity unit primarily caring for progressive care patients with some ICU patients. The role involves caring for ventilated and critically ill patients, including those with sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Minimum 1.5 years of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Work Schedule

• Evenings shift: 12-hour shifts
• 3 shifts per week (36 hours total)
• Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
• Will not work alone

Unit Details

• Mixed acuity unit with ICU and Progressive Care patients
• Medical ICU beds: 24
• Progressive Care beds: 12
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Progressive Care: 1:3 (up to 1:4 with transfers or medical patients)
  • ICU: 1:2 (up to 1:3 with transfers or medical patients)
• Floating required to ICU, PCU, and Medsurg units maintaining 1:3 max ratio

Clinical Responsibilities

• Care for ventilated patients
• Initiate and titrate IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics)
• Assist with intubations and line placements
• Monitor critically ill patients with complex diagnoses

Equipment Used

• Phillips heart monitors
• Epic (EMR) system
• Pyxis medication dispensing system
• EKG machine
• Dopplers

Orientation & Training

• 8 hours of non-billable orientation
• Onboarding includes policy review and Epic training/access
• One day of unit-specific onboarding

Additional Information

• Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts must be black or white, short or long sleeves allowed
• Local clinicians within 50 miles may be subject to a rate adjustment
• Client may cancel assignment up to 24 hours in advance
