Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours: 36 hours per week (with option to pick up additional hours PRN)
Contract Length: Up to 26 weeks

Job Description

• Holiday coverage is required; holiday time off requests are generally not allowed but may be discussed with management based on staffing needs.
• Night shift nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6; no LPNs on night shift.
• Float to medical-surgical departments as needed.
• Patient diagnoses commonly include pneumonia, heart failure, GI bleed, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), altered mental status (AMS), and sepsis.
• First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID).
• Complete criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, SSN trace, national and state criminal searches, sex offender registry, education verification, and motor vehicle record (MVR) search.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Michigan fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions/units; process coordinated via compliance team.
• Education verification with copy of highest degree or diploma.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
• Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 30 days of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles, mumps, rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer each)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption (for candidates starting after November 1)
• Fit mask testing required on-site for applicable roles; appointment must be scheduled and documented.

Additional Requirements

• Complete a full 7-year work history with no gaps, documented on application/resume.
• One professional reference from a direct supervisor or manager required.
• Completion of skills checklist annually for applicable units.
• Acknowledgment and signing of facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards.
• Completion of competency exams in specialty and medication/pharmacology within 1 year prior to assignment start.

Notes

• No call requirement.
• Weekend work required every other weekend.
• Guaranteed minimum hours per week: 36 or 48 hours.
• Charge nurse duties are free when fully staffed; charge nurse patient load varies based on staffing.
• Prior travel experience is not required.
