Description
Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Overview
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care using the nursing process to ensure safe, therapeutic care.
- Utilize evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, compassion, and skilled communication.
- Lead efforts to create a safe patient environment and optimal patient experience.
- Assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members throughout the care continuum.
- Anticipate and respond to significant changes in patient condition; adjust care plans accordingly.
- Implement patient safety strategies and report safety events promptly.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and shared governance activities.
- Assume leadership roles within the care team and delegate appropriately.
- Maintain professional development through education, coaching, and mentoring.
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience.
- Emergency Department experience within the last year.

Clinical Skills & Procedures
- Triage, trauma, stroke, cardiac, pediatric care.
- IV therapy, nasogastric tube (NGT) management, EKG interpretation.
- Assist with intubations, rapid infusion system (RIS) drugs, chest tube management.
- Experience with splinting recommended but not mandatory.
Work Environment & Support
- Level 4 Trauma Center and Acute Stroke Ready Center.
- 35 inpatient beds; approximately 700 patient visits per month.
- Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- General ED patients; patients under 16 transferred out for admission.
- No catheterization lab; acute STEMI and cardiac arrest patients typically transferred out.
- No ambulance diversion.
- Patient-to-nurse ratios range from 1:2 to 1:6.
- Support staff includes CNAs, techs, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, ED physicians, and advanced practice providers.
- Telemetry monitoring at nurse stations; no tele tech support.
- Charting and equipment: Epic EMR, Pyxis medication system, Alaris pumps, GE monitors.
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour evening shifts.
- 48 hours per week.
- Weekend rotation approximately every other weekend (may be less frequent).
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Holiday work expected at least once during the contract.
- Time off requests require 7 days advance approval.
Orientation & Training
- On-site training includes NEO modules and Epic system training during the first week.
- One shift orientation on the unit to learn workflow.
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Any professional solid color; no patterns.
- Free onsite parking with security.
- Floating to other units is not required.
Contract Details
- Contract length: 14 weeks.
