Registered Nurse – Cardiology Clinic

Job Overview

• Work in a fast-paced cardiology clinic within a medical office building.
• Patient volume ranges from 24 to 60 adults per day.
• Patient diagnoses include CHF, chest pain, pre/post Cath Lab, post-CABG, post-valve replacements, pulmonary hypertension, peripheral artery disease, electrophysiology patients, and some stress tests.
• Patients are typically seen every 15 minutes.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 3 years of cardiology nursing experience, including cardiology experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Clinic experience
• Experience in acute care settings such as ICU, CVICU, Cardiac Cath Lab, or Cardiac Stepdown
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications

Skills and Responsibilities

• Comfortable managing the specified cardiac patient population.
• Authorization of procedures, entering orders, patient education, managing in-basket messages.
• Phone triage and calling patients with abnormal lab results.
• Occasionally administering IV dobutamine for stress tests.
• Assisting with rooming patients and obtaining EKGs (medical assistants perform most of this).
• Placement of Holter/event monitors (training provided if needed).

Work Environment and Support

• Supported by Medical Assistants, LPNs, Patient Service Representatives, Lead Nurse, Manager/Supervisor.
• Team includes 5 cardiologists, 1 electrophysiology physician, and 4 nurse practitioners/physician assistants.
• No floating required.

Technology and Equipment

• EMR system: EPIC (preferred).
• IV pump: Alaris.
• Cardiac monitors: Zio and Bardy.
• Unit-specific equipment: EKG machines.

Orientation and Scheduling

• Up to two weeks of orientation, tailored to skillset and comfort level.
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a rotating half-day off each week.
• No weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements.
• Approval to request time off up to 5 days.
