Job Title
Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location
Bedford, Indiana
Contract Length

Work Setting
- 15-bed emergency unit / critical access hospital
- General Emergency Department combining adult and pediatric patients
Shift Details
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
- Local candidates are not accepted
Required Experience and Certifications
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in Emergency Department or related specialty
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred but not mandatory
Required Skills and Competencies
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
- Medication administration including continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation
- Neurological/psychiatric care related to cerebrovascular accidents (CVA)
- Professional skills including isolation precautions and triage
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Indiana, verified online within 30 days before start date
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and transcript/diploma (official copies required)
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge nurses, managers, supervisors, or higher
- Current employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps of 30+ days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with minimum 100% score on online test
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start date; if positive, chest X-ray within 2 years and proof of positive history required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine preferred but not required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; declinations/exemptions not accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; declinations/exemptions not accepted; history of disease not accepted
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start date (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); declinations not accepted
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
- HIPAA acknowledgment updated annually
- Completion of required orientation packets and competency exams as directed
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Candidates must be able to work the specified 3x12 hour day shifts without block scheduling
- This is a travel/contract position; local candidates will not be considered
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in central line care and management
- Experience administering continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation
