Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – OB / L&D
Location: Eau Claire, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Overview
- Labor & Delivery unit with:
- 8 L&D beds
- 1 OR suite for C-sections
- 1 triage bed
- 12 postpartum beds
- Approximately 100-120 births per month (1300-1400 per year)
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
- Separate LDRP units; nurses care for both laboring and postpartum mothers and stable newborns (couplets)
- No RN circulation in OR or post-general anesthesia recovery
- Anesthesia available in-house 24/7
- No in-house OB/Neonatologist 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, vents) primarily for newborns, managed by separate staff
- Fetal monitoring system: Fetalink
- Telemetry strips read by techs on another unit (GE monitors)
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (AHA)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Comfortable with neonatal resuscitation and NRP protocols
- Skilled in caring for laboring, postpartum, and stable newborn patients
- Experience with common diagnoses: pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, postpartum hemorrhage, newborn respiratory distress, pregnancy-related care
- Ability to titrate drips including oxytocin, insulin, and magnesium
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Self-scheduling available
- Weekend requirement: every 3rd Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- No call or standby requirement
- Potential to float to other units as a sitter within the same rotation as staff nurses
- Scrubs provided
- Orientation: 3 days total (1 day online training, 1 day labor unit, 1 day postpartum unit)
Additional Notes
- Travel RNs typically not assigned charge nurse duties
- Nurse aides and surgical techs available on unit
- Clinicians must clock in/out at the facility
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to submission
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Wisconsin
- Minimum experience: Not explicitly stated; comfort and skills with neonatal resuscitation and labor/postpartum care expected
