Description
Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
Overview
- Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
- Employment type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night, 3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15
- Hours per week: 36
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Patient ratio: 1:5–6
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg (2 years of experience)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Must be able to take heparin drips
- Experience with Epic

- PCA
- Colostomy care
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central line care/management
- Peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy
- PICC line management
- IV starts
- Management of dysrhythmias
- O2 protocol management
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions/PPE
- Traumatic brain injury care
- Ortho trauma care
- Surgical drains
- Chest tubes
- Nasal cannula
- Oral suctioning
- Tracheostomy management
- Wound care
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Pre/post hemodialysis management
- Management of drips
- CVA experience
- Pre/post neuro surgery experience
- Spinal cord injury experience
Unit Notes
- Must be comfortable with the stated patient ratios
- Assigned to storm team and/or hurricane team as needed
- May be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Consolidation to a centralized office may occur mid-contract
- Navy scrubs
Orientation
- 12-hour unit orientation
- 16-hour organizational education

- Severe bone, joint, and soft tissue injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spine injuries and pain
- Neurological trauma/nerve damage
- Subdural hematoma
