Description
Med Surg: IU 6KLM Med and Tele
Job Overview
- Contract role
- 13 weeks
- 36 hours per week
- 12-hour night shifts
Location
- Milwaukee, WI
Unit / Setting
- Medical-surgical and telemetry unit
- Level III trauma center
- Level III NICU
- Magnet-designated
- Comprehensive stroke center
Patient Population
- Chest pain, post-cath lab, CHF, AFib, stroke/TIA rule-out, post-IR, cellulitis, AKI
- Rare surgical patients
- Rare COVID patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS
- 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- DOU - Direct Observation Unit experience
Preferred Experience
- Observation unit experience
- Basic medical-surgical skills
Unit Details
- Typical patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days, 1:6–8 on nights
- Tech support is available
- Centralized telemetry monitoring is available
- Respiratory therapy is in house 24/7
- Phlebotomy support is available for peripheral blood draws
Schedule / Expectations
- Every-other-weekend rotation
- No on-call
- Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved
- Travelers are floated first
- Must follow the fatigue policy: no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
- One holiday per season is expected
Orientation
- 4–8 hours of day-shift orientation
- One full shift on the unit, depending on experience

- Scrubs: any color except camo or denim
