Description
Medical Surgical Nurse
Overview
- Travel/contract role in Roanoke, Virginia
- Night shift: 4x12 hours, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
- 13-week assignment
- Adult inpatient unit with medical-surgical, behavioral health, and substance use disorder care
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Med Surg (1 year of experience)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Skilled in peripheral line care/management
- Skilled in non-invasive airway management
- Experience with Epic
Scheduling and Work Expectations
- May be scheduled every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- May be required to float within skillset
- May be required to work as charge and precept
- 1:6 patient ratio
Charting
- EPIC experience required
Additional Requirements
- Accepts local candidates
- Does not accept first-time travelers
- Driver’s license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
- E-Verify or attestation required
- 7-year background check required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start and updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- TB questionnaire required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- 2 clinical references required
- Complete application/resume required
- Skills checklist required and updated annually
Unit Focus
- Care for adult patients with complex medical conditions, co-occurring behavioral health needs, and substance use disorders
- Emphasis on assessment, stabilization, medication management, behavioral support, and discharge planning
