Laboratory Technologist

Overview

• Contract role in Machias, Maine
• Evening shift

Role Summary

• Performs laboratory testing across multiple lab areas and reports results for diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring
• Also supports general laboratory operations, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance

Required Qualifications

• Medical Technologist experience within the last year
• 1 year of experience as a Medical Technologist
• AMT or ASCP
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related area of specialty

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex testing in assigned laboratory areas
• Collect specimens, including arterial puncture, capillary puncture, and venipuncture as appropriate
• Process specimens and maintain laboratory instruments and supplies
• Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Validate and report test results accurately and on time
• Assist with laboratory policy and procedure manuals
• Help orient and teach students and new employees
• Research and develop new procedures as assigned

Work Conditions

• Frequently lifts up to 50 pounds
• Requires standing, walking, kneeling, and bending most of the time
• Requires fine motor skills and manual dexterity
• Exposure risk includes blood-borne pathogens
• Must be able to work in limited space, with interruptions, and around moderate equipment noise
