Description
Crit Care ICU 2nd Floor
Role Overview
- Contract RN role in the ICU on the 2nd Floor.
- Unit has 14 beds.
- Facility is a Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with 91 beds.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- ICU - Intensive Care Unit (2 years of experience).
- ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year.
- BLS.
- ACLS.
- NIHSS.
- Experience with Epic.
Preferred
- TNCC.
- Abdominal pressure monitoring, EVDs, CVVH, and IABP.
Patient Population / Clinical Focus
- General/medical: sepsis, pneumonia, COVID, COPD, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, GI bleeds, DKA.
- Cardiac: CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath (radial and femoral approach).
- Trauma: GSW, stabbings, falls.
- Surgical: GYN, GI (SBO), GU.
- Neuro: SDH, TBI, CVA, TIA, syncope.
- No cardiovascular surgeries.
Patient Ratios
- 1:1-3.
- If greater than 2 patients, team nursing is used with an experienced MedSurg RN.
- If floating to MedSurg/Tele units or ED Boarding with MS patients, ratio is 1:4.
Floating
- May float anywhere in the hospital within scope of practice and below.
- Travelers float first.
Schedule
- 12-hour evening shift.
- Shift times: 0700-1900 and 1900-0700.
- Every other weekend.
- 1 holiday per contract.
- Schedule made in 6-week increments.
- No on-call.
Orientation
- 2-day orientation:
- Day 1: ClinED access/login/badge and unit training.
- Day 2: 12 hours on the unit with a preceptor.
Support on the Unit
- Charge RN typically takes patient assignment.
- 1-2 CNA per shift.
- Bedside/Centralized tele monitoring.
- HUC on day shift.
- Break Buddy.
- RT 24/7.
- Hospitalists 24/7.
- Intensivist 24/7.
- OT/PT/ST during the day.
