Description
Oncology Acute RN
Overview
- Role: RN
- Specialty/Unit: Oncology Acute
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract length: 15 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour nights
- Hours per week: 36
- Facility setting: 19-bed unit, all private rooms
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
- Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens and administration, including hanging/handling precautions (PPE) and monitoring for side effects
- Negative drug screen required for all panels

Schedule and Unit Details
- Start time is 0700 or 1900
- Works every other weekend
- Works every other holiday
- Self-scheduling is used
- Charge RN is present 24/7
- House supervisor is present 24/7
- PCTs are used on the unit
- No call or standby requirement
Patient Population
- Cancer patients, especially lymphoma and leukemia
- Hematology patients
- Medical patients
- Radiation oncology patients
- Gyn/Onc patients
Clinical Responsibilities and Unit Practices
- RN staffing is based on unit census
- RN does not need to read or interpret telemetry strips
- RN is not required to titrate drips
- CPAP may be managed by RNs; BiPAP is only handled if it is the patient’s home sleep regimen
- Traveler RNs are included in the float rotation to other Gen Med level-of-care areas
Additional Notes
- Local placements within 50 miles are accepted
- Epic Beacon is used for EMR documentation
