Description
Med Surg Oncology RN
Overview
- Travel/Contract role in Wilmington, North Carolina
- 13-week contract
- Day shift: 3x12, 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
- 36 hours per week
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals accepted at local rate
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg (2 years of experience)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Experience with colostomy care
- Experience with accessing ports
- Experience with blood product administration
- Experience with central line blood draw
- Experience with PICC lines
- Experience with heparin
- Experience with insulin
- Experience with surgical drains
- Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Peripheral Line Care/Management
- Nasal Cannula
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
Preferred Qualifications
- ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration
- Willingness to obtain ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration prior to or during the assignment
Schedule and Assignment Details
- Every other weekend required
- Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED and other alternate medical patient care locations
- Ratios: 1:6
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings is required
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team coverage
- Contract staff may be required to report during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
- Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur
- Shifts called out will need make-up shifts rescheduled
Unit Focus
- Unit cares for patients receiving chemotherapy
- General medical-surgical patient population
- Chemotherapy/biotherapy administration: IV, PO, or injection
- Common diagnoses include AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
Orientation and Work Environment
- Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Scrubs: Navy Blue and white
- Unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
Important Notes
- RTO after booking is not allowed
- Additional RTO on unit or call-offs could result in cancellation and DNR
- Certification can be obtained before start or during the assignment
- Onsite training will be provided for the chemotherapy certification
- Monthly staff meetings are required
