Description
Surgical ICU RN
Overview
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour days
- Hours per week: 36
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
Required Qualifications
- Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS
- ACLS
- Level I trauma experience
- ICU experience
Unit Details
- Surgical ICU
- 13 beds
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2, with possible 1:1 or 1:3 assignments
- Common patient types include post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
- Nurses are required to titrate drips
- Common drips include pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
- Charge nurse available; may take an assignment as staffing allows
- House supervisor available 24/7
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are present at a ratio of 1:10
- Intensivist coverage is in house approximately 0700–1900, with telemedicine intensivist support and an attending on call
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
- RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Tele/monitor techs are on the unit, and nurses read and interpret their own strips
- Floating may include lower levels of care, where the traveler would take a full team: 3 patients on stepdown and 5–6 patients in general med
- No call or standby requirement
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
- Holiday requirement: every other holiday
- No specific scrub color required
