Job Description
As a Registered Professional Nurse, you will provide safe, competent, and quality care to a designated group of patients and their families, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care through activities such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
- Support staff in evidence-based patient care practices.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify barriers to improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
- Implement process improvement strategies and participate in peer and institutional reviews.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Contribute to compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Apply high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with nursing leadership to ensure appropriate use and inventory of supplies.
- Escalate material or staffing shortages as needed.
- Practice cost-effective patient care resource management.
- Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with caring, respect, compassion, and empathy.
- Incorporate ethical principles in decision-making.
- Foster a spirit of scholarship, inquiry, lifelong learning, and innovation.
- Acquire knowledge and skills relevant to the role, patient population, and specialty.
- Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils, committees, and unit initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Telemetry nursing experience (minimum 2 years)
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years RN experience overall
- Minimum 1 year travel nursing experience (for travel positions)
- Experience with ventilators
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
