Job Opportunity: CDI Specialist I (Remote - Clinical)

Location: Remote (within the U.S.)
Specialty: Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist
Contract Length: 20 weeks


Job Description

  • Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (ICDI) Specialist role focused on reviewing patient medical records in inpatient and/or outpatient settings
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Conducting inpatient CDI reviews with productivity expectations
    • Reconciling documentation with coding and MS-DRG assignment
    • Risk-adjustment documentation (CMS, HCC, Vizient, etc.)
    • Validating that coding reflects medical necessity and accurately represents severity of illness, risk of mortality, and complexity of care
    • Identifying documentation gaps and opportunities for improvement in concurrent and retrospective reviews
    • Collaborating extensively with physicians, coding staff, case management, nursing, and other caregivers
    • Serving as an educator and resource to improve clinical documentation quality and completeness
    • Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, official coding rules, and accepted standards of coding practice
  • Must provide own equipment
  • 100% remote work

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (ICDIS), including concurrent review of medical records and production role experience within the last 12 months
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Required certifications (one or more):
    • Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
    • International or Domestic Medical Degree
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present ideas to physicians and healthcare team members
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision
  • Ability to work well with others in a creative and challenging environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet business demands

  • Remote clinical role with a focus on inpatient documentation review
  • Collaborative and educational role supporting clinical and coding teams
  • Ethical and legal compliance required in all duties and responsibilities
