Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The ER Clinical Nurse provides safe, competent, quality care to patients and their families in the Emergency Department. This role involves applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs; apply critical thinking in patient management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing.
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Establish therapeutic relationships considering patient values, preferences, and cultural diversity.
- Use evidence-based practices to improve patient care and satisfaction.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as appropriate.
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, nursing research, and compliance measures.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with nursing leadership to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Document in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication.
- Encourage lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
- Acquire knowledge relevant to the role, specialty, and community health needs.
- Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils and committees.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Current New York State RN License.
- Minimum 2 years Emergency Medicine experience (adult and/or pediatric).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- NIHSS Certification required.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required.
- Preferred: 1 year travel experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Trauma experience is a plus.
- Additional certifications such as TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course), and CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) are advantageous.
Education
- BSN degree preferred.
