Description

Registered Nurse - Observation (Oklahoma City, OK)

Job Description

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician orders.
  • Assists physicians in patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients; observes physiological manifestations and intervenes when necessary.
  • Administers prescribed medications.
  • Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers competent patient care.
  • Communicates care plans to patients and families during hospitalization and at discharge.
  • Informs patients and families about hospital procedures.
  • Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Delegates tasks to support staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Some computer skills.

Education Requirements

  • Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing from a Board Approved Program.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
