Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 12 weeks (82 days ≈ 12 weeks)
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients in the PACU unit, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to manage patient care and ensure positive patient outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Implement process improvement strategies and participate in peer and institutional reviews.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice, and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with leadership to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource management.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert level.
- Project a professional image demonstrating caring, respect, compassion, and empathy.
- Incorporate ethical principles in decision-making.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Current New York State RN License
- BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications
- Minimum 2 years PACU experience required
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
- Experience with travel nursing positions preferred but not required for per diem roles

- Average Unit Census: 50 patients
- Unit Beds: 17-32
- Staffing Guidelines: Varies
- Typical Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts or 4x10 hour shifts
