Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Med Surg/Rehab Unit
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse provides safe, competent, quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their families in a Med Surg/Rehab setting.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care and nursing process based on theory, research, and evidence-based practice.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking in management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient and family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify barriers to improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
- Participate in process improvement, peer reviews, and quality initiatives.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards according to protocol.
- Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate with leadership to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to care.
- Document accurately and thoroughly per regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with caring and respect.

Qualifications & Skills
- NYS Registered Nurse License required
- BLS and CRRN Med/Surg certifications
- Minimum 2 years of rehab and med/surg nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Travel experience preferred for travel positions (not required for Per Diem)
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
Unit Information
- Average Unit Census: 18 patients
- Unit Beds: 24
- Staffing Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, weekends required
