Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) - Brooklyn, NY
Job Summary
- Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating nursing care as defined by the New York State Nursing Practice Act.
- Provides comprehensive critical care nursing to critically ill patients aged 18 and older.
- Collaborates with healthcare team members to address patient and family needs.
- Delivers care to ICU and/or telemetry patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assessment
- Assess physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through observation, interview, and medical record review.
- Collect and review patient history and data from care providers.
- Determine mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition; adjust care plans accordingly.
- Document nursing assessments including psychosocial and environmental factors.
- Identify medical problems related to psychological/mental illness and medication use.
- Communicate findings with social workers, case managers, therapists, physicians, and other team members.
Planning
- Identify and address admission needs based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and symptoms.
- Assess patient education and learning needs.
- Make appropriate referrals to other disciplines and document them.
Intervention/Implementation
- Manage clinical skills in nursing care and patient management, including symptom identification, disease management, treatment modalities, and medication administration.
- Respond appropriately to medical/surgical and critical emergencies using crisis intervention.
- Apply critical thinking in patient assessment and interventions.
- Follow infection control procedures and protocols.
- Address psychosocial needs of critically ill patients.
- Provide health teaching and medication instructions to patients and families.
- Perform procedures according to established standards of care.
- Demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice.
- Report unusual occurrences and patient care incidents.
- Act as a patient advocate.
Evaluation
- Revise patient care plans based on evaluation of interventions and outcomes in collaboration with healthcare team.
Physical Demands
- Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, and some repetitive motions.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities without compromising patient care.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of critical care nursing experience preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Certifications & Licensure
- New York State RN License required.
- ACLS and BLS certifications required.
