Job Opportunity: RN - Outpatient (Contract)

Location: New York, NY

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to ambulatory care patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and caregivers.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient care needs with critical thinking.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
  • Implement process improvement strategies and participate in peer/institutional reviews.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
  • Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
  • Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
  • Document nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
  • Document accurately and thoroughly per regulatory and legal standards.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Professional Development

  • Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
  • Project a professional image demonstrating caring, respect, compassion, and empathy.
  • Incorporate ethical principles in decision-making.
  • Encourage lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
  • Acquire knowledge and skills relevant to role, patient population, and specialty.
  • Participate in shared decision-making through councils and committees.

Requirements

  • Licensure: NYS RN or LPN License required
  • Certifications: BLS required
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years RN/LPN experience required
    • Minimum 2 years ambulatory care experience required
    • Prior travel experience required: 1 year travel experience required for travel positions (not required for per diem)
  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
    • Associate degree in nursing considered with relevant experience or active enrollment in BSN program
  • Preferred Skills: EPIC experience highly preferred

Schedule

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
