Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to psychiatric patients using evidence-based practice and nursing theory. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and caregivers. Maintain therapeutic relationships and promote a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver nursing care based on professional practice models and nursing process.
• Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
• Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
• Educate patients and families on care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Manage assignments and delegate appropriately within the care delivery model.

Patient Experience

• Facilitate patient-centered care activities such as bedside shift reports, purposeful rounding, medication reviews, and discharge planning.
• Respect patient values, preferences, and cultural diversity.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Address patient concerns and escalate as needed.
• Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, efficient patient-centered care.
• Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Identify and escalate safety hazards.
• Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Coordinate supply and staffing resources.
• Document in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
• Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Professional Development

• Support clinical colleagues and healthcare team members.
• Advance nursing competence and professional image.
• Incorporate ethical principles in decision-making.
• Engage in lifelong learning and participate in nursing committees and initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• License: Current New York State RN License
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years RN experience
  • Minimum 2 years current psychiatric nursing experience
• Certifications: BLS, Non Violent Crisis Intervention Course (8 hours), SEL, SCR
• Schedule: 5x8 shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Additional: EPIC experience highly preferred

Contract Length

• Approximately 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)

Prior Travel Experience

• For travel positions, 1 year of prior travel experience is required. Not required for per diem positions.

Facility Details

• Psychiatric unit with 31 beds
