Registered Nurse - ICU
Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Employment Type: Clinical
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU provides direct patient care under supervision, implementing the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The RN collaborates with the care team to ensure quality patient care and is responsible for documentation, communication, and coordination of services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient growth and development principles.
- Perform thorough and timely documentation, shift reports, and verbal communication.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to healthcare team members.
- Assist in coordinating services with medical, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Respond effectively during emergency situations.
- Maintain clinical skills and stay current with competencies, equipment, and certifications.
- Perform technical nursing skills including medication administration, IV starts, Foley catheter insertion and maintenance, venipuncture, blood product administration, restraint application, sterile dressing changes, line maintenance (intracranial, central, arterial, peripheral), care of ventilated patients, and tracheostomies.
- Troubleshoot and operate equipment such as traction devices, wound vacuum systems, monitoring devices, and dialysis equipment.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans; educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatments, and medications.
- Use critical thinking and professional judgment to respond promptly to clinical changes and prevent complications in patients requiring cardiac monitoring, stroke care, medical-surgical, and trauma care.
- Communicate effectively and adhere to organizational values including customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards.
- Follow patient care policies, procedures, and standards of care consistently.
- Promote positive patient and coworker experiences through professional communication.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi.
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Moderate Sedation certification.
