Registered Nurse - Oncology (Contract)
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to oncology patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Deliver patient-centered care emphasizing education, communication, and support for patients and families.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care using critical thinking and evidence-based practices.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs and apply appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement care plans.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Manage assignments within a modified primary nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, respecting cultural diversity and individual preferences.
- Facilitate patient-centered communication and service recovery when needed.
- Conduct purposeful hourly rounding addressing key patient needs.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient patient-centered care and escalate safety concerns appropriately.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Document nursing care accurately to support quality and performance improvement.
- Follow institutional protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and staffing needs with nursing leadership.
- Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues and contribute to a positive environment of care.
- Pursue ongoing clinical competence and professional growth.
- Participate in nursing committees and specialty practice councils.
- Incorporate ethical principles into clinical decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medicine and chemotherapy nursing.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate degree in nursing with relevant experience and/or active matriculation in a BSN program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience in outpatient settings.
- Experience in charge nurse roles.

- Unit size: 36 beds
- Average unit census: 35 patients
- Typical schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
- Contract length: Approximately 13 weeks (89 days)
