Job Opportunity: CDI Specialist I
Location: Remote (within the U.S.)
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CT (may require flexible hours including evenings and weekends)
Contract Length: 52 weeks (1 year)

Job Summary
The Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist is responsible for reviewing patient medical records in inpatient and/or outpatient settings to ensure accurate representation of severity of illness and proper coding. This role validates that coding reflects medical necessity and supports accurate reporting of patient clinical status, risk of mortality, and complexity of care. The specialist identifies documentation gaps, collaborates with physicians and healthcare teams, and serves as an educator to improve clinical documentation quality and completeness.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P) certification
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist
- Experience as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist within the last 12 months in a production role
- Experience working in an inpatient setting
Additional Information
- Must complete thoughtful pre-screening questions as part of the application process
- Knowledge of disease processes, medications, and clinical documentation standards required
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance related to documentation, coding, and billing for all health insurance plans
- Ability to facilitate documentation improvements through collaboration with physicians, coding, case management, nursing, and other caregivers
- Position is fully remote and can be performed from anywhere within the United States
