Description
Nurse Manager, Behavioral Health
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Clinical - Nursing - IPC
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operation and clinical supervision of nursing staff within the Inpatient Behavioral Health Service. This role involves both clinical and administrative oversight to ensure quality patient care aligned with regulatory standards and evidence-based clinical management.
Essential Duties
- Manage unit operations in collaboration with leadership, ensuring interdisciplinary coordination and performance improvement.
- Maintain positive professional relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Implement hospital policies, regulatory codes, and procedures relevant to the department.
- Oversee admissions, discharges, and discharge planning to ensure appropriate clinical management.
- Collect and prepare clinical and statistical reports for regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory surveys and standards (e.g., DOH, JCAHO).
- Manage budgeting, supply, and inventory maintenance.
- Provide 24-hour operational leadership and administrative coverage as needed.
- Ensure nursing philosophy, ethical standards, and scope of service are met in patient care.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance administrative and clinical skills.
- Implement best practices and innovative care approaches.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 5 years as a Registered Nurse (RN) with valid New York State RN license.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatry/behavioral health, including experience within the last year.
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership role.
- Experience and demonstrated competency in the applicable clinical specialty.
- Knowledge of quality improvement (QI) philosophy models, processes, and tools in healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methods and Root Cause Analysis.
- Experience monitoring and facilitating compliance with NYSDOH, JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements.
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Certifications & Licensure
- Licensed and currently registered as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
- Crisis Management certifications including PMCS and TRUST required.
Additional Information
- Must demonstrate respect, professionalism, and commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Ability to utilize electronic health records and healthcare billing systems relevant to the position.
