Registered Nurse - Interventional Radiology (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients in the Interventional Radiology unit. Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care using professional nursing models and critical thinking.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs; integrate assessment and intervention skills.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model relationship-centered care practices such as bedside shift reports, purposeful rounding, medication review, and discharge planning.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to improve patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to avoid high-risk behaviors and ensure a safe environment.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management for patient care.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Promote cost-effective patient care practices.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Maintain thorough and compliant documentation.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication.
- Encourage lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
- Participate in specialty practice councils, committees, and unit initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Minimum 2 years of Interventional Radiology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Critical care nursing experience
- Pediatric nursing experience
- Experience with sterile procedures
- Experience with moderate sedation
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, 8 shifts per pay period, staggered schedule.
- Includes weekdays, weekends, holidays, and on-call requirements.
Unit Information
- Unit includes 6 pre/post procedure bays and 5 procedure rooms.
- Staffing guidelines vary based on patient census and acuity.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with a strong background in Interventional Radiology nursing who are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a dynamic clinical environment.
